Among the most popular card games in the world, poker is played with chips and cards in clubs, casinos, and private homes. It’s often called the national card game of the United States. While there are many variations, all use the same basic hand rankings and betting intervals.

The ace can also be considered a wild card, allowing it to be used as the highest card in a five-card straight or flush.
Other poker variants are draw poker, strip poker, and poker for two. These all have the same hand ranking system, although the order of strength may vary. The most common betting intervals are the flop, turn, and river. The flop is the first round of betting, while the turn and river are the second. For each of these rounds, the player to the left of the big blind is first to act. When the flop and turn are complete, the betting period begins. The next player to the left of the big blind can then bet, raise, or check. The player to the right is then the last to act.
